I previously had the Apeman H65 which was a great camera with a few design flaws (such as not being able to view what you are filming while setting up the camera). Although I have not had the opportunity to use the new camera as much as the H65 the camera fixes the problems of the past camera and seems to have fantastic video potential!
Bought the H80 '4k' version with WiFi & Bluetooth.
More than happy about the picture quality although I'm not sure it's true 4k (I haven't tried viewing on a 4k TV yet but on my laptop it looks perhaps not quite 4k), it could also do with a higher frame speed as an option. 30fps seems pretty standard but I would like the option of going to the full 60fps. One other feature I would like to see is and option for the video to continue filming if there is still movement detected within the frame, currently there needs to be at least 5 seconds from the end of a clip before the next one can start so yo may miss something important during that 5 second lag.
The tree strap is OK although I have read a lot of people's feedback saying that there locking clip has broken, It does look week to be honest so this doesn't surprise me and it's also quite difficult to get it tight enough around the tree as the strap lock slips a little and is week. I would also like to see some proper convex teeth on the camera back so that it grips the tree better and the strap slots slightly lower on the case as they are too high so the bottom of the camera can flop around a little.
I'd like to see a rubber seal around the external 6v power supply socket as well so that it can be used in inclement weather, and I'd like to see this power supply socket in the back half of the case because currently you need to unplug the power supply to open the case to set the settings and access the SD card.
There is also a USB socket in the camera which might be useful but there's nothing in the instructions to say what you can use it for!
The WiFi and Bluetooth set up is a little confusing via the App and the instructions and when you do eventually get there, the feature is pretty much useless. The WiFi connection is intermittent and even when it's stable the settings aren't all transferred. Also; to view one of the videos on the App, you first have to download it to your phone or tablet/PC, which, depending on the length of the video and definition setting, could take many seconds to download. Better to just remove the SD card and view on a portable video viewer.
Having said all that; the picture quality on both video and photo is impressive, even in the dark. The dark mode IR flash light is also very impressive, even at around 15m to 20m I only needed 'medium' setting to highlight the wildlife enough for the camera.
Also; the sensitivity is very impressive, sensing some cats and foxes at 20m on medium setting as well. I'm now trying on maximum sensitivity to see if I can capture a hedgehog I suspect may be roaming the garden. They are difficult to catch on camera traps from a distance I understand due to them being small and covered in splines so the heat signature is very small.
APEMAN H80 Wildlife Camera
The camera is easy to use after a couple of trials sessions and gives amazing daytime and night pictures and videos, it’s very robust, waterproof and simple to secure on a suitable tree, post or I’ve used a Calor gas cylinder, it took me a day or two to realise ‘mode’ gave me the choice of photo or video otherwise apart from loosing all your settings when changing batteries and the WiFi is unreliable and of no real use I love it
Great camera when you get it set up correctly. The instruction book is a bit misleading. Contacting support was impossible until I put a dispute via
Eypal! Then got helpful advise. Found use lowest sensitivity, as you get a lot of flies!
